A new year. A new Rémino.
Let’s admit it: both on a personal and a worldwide scale, 2008 wasn’t the best year of our lives. Personally, I’m glad I had some good highlights in the year, or else I would turn insane.
It’s time to just forget about 2008 and already look forward to welcome 2009. It will be with us for 365 days, so we have to be prepared. It’s a bit like meeting a new roommate: you just don’t know with who or what you’ll end up with. It can become your best friend, or be the worst pain you’ll ever endure.
I decided to scrap Rémino and make it anew. I switched from Drupal 5 to the brand new WordPress 2.7, dropped the multi-langual functionality, discarded all the old posts I wrote, and use a plain-vanilla design. It won’t be like this forever: I bought Photoshop and made a new design, and archived the old journal entries to import in this new site later.
The type of content I’ll put online will also be different. The average Internet user changed a lot since I started writing my opinions online more than 10 years ago. Trolls are more common, comments are more sparse, and I’m getting increasingly annoyed at people taking things too seriously. For that reason, I will write less negative or personal content, hence the site’s new slogan, “Now happier than ever!” Friends I trust who will read what I write with an open mind already know where to get news about me on Facebook, Mixi, and LiveJournal. I am also writing all the negative and angry content in my LiveJournal which I called “Antirémino” where only friends of mine can read.
This will probably be my last entry of the year, so in advance, I wish you all to have happy holidays and hope 2009 will bring you what you didn’t get this year.
