Apple Store to open in Ottawa
My co-worker just sent me a screenshot of Apple’s Web site, taken from its Job Opportunities section. It seems Apple is now recruiting people to open a new retail store in Ottawa. The location of the new Apple Store will be in the Rideau Centre. That will surely compensate for the void left by the other computer store that closed a few years ago, which was the only Apple-authorized retail store in the area.
Update (2009-02-06): By “in the area,” I meant downtown, or near the Market. A few years ago, CompuSmart Express in the Rideau Centre was the only Apple-authorized retail store in that area, but Ottawa has other fine Apple-authorized locations, including Carbon Computing, The Mac Group, and iService Depot. Thanks to WTL for his comment making this precision.

Actually, that information
Actually, that information isn’t accurate. While there was an CompuSmart Express in the Rideau Centre, there isn’t by any means a lack of Apple-selling stores in Ottawa. Carbon Computing (the newest), The Mac Group, and iService Depot are all Mac-only, plus a slew of retailers who offer Apple products alongside PCs.
But, that certainly doesn’t diminish the impact of a honest-to-goodness Apple store will have. Hopefully, this will open the eyes of government IT folks to be more accepting of Macs in general.
Thanks for comment! I should
Thanks for comment! I should have been clearer in my article. By “in the area,” I meant downtown. I have shopped both at The Mac Group, and recently at Carbon Computing and their service is great. Also thanks for mentioning CompuSmart, because I always forget the second word after “Compu”!
I’ll update my post for clarity.
Actually, the store is being
Actually, the store is being built right now. It is on the second floor, next to La Vie en Rose.
I posted this in February, so
I posted this in February, so of course it must be built right now. :P Thanks for mentioning, however. I’ll go check it out.
