Avatar: 3D FTW!

I’ve never seen a 3D movie before, and rarely an IMAX film. I always wonder if the extra money is worth it. When it’s not, it’s a waste, but when it is, it’s a large return on your investment.

Avatar will make every penny worth. The great visuals with the realism enhanced by the 3D glasses really pull you into the scenery of the planet Pandora, inhabited by an aboriginal blue-skin yellow-eyes race called the Na’vi.  (Maybe they are distant cousins of the Andorians, the Smurfs, or Paul Karason.)

But really, that’s it. If the wonderful CG world strangely reminiscent of National Geographic’s imagery style wasn’t in 3D, chances are most people wouldn’t bother with the entire 162 minutes. The story seems to be written by some tree huggers, or was meant for a Disney animation, with a common “save the planet” theme. The nice part, however, is humans were on the bad side. For once, we’re not so perfect and grandiose.

Overall, I always think it’s a great movie, despite the predictable plot, and Cameron still does great work. Strangely, I’d rather see this movie in theatre than the 2D “downgrade” at home. Don’t miss your chance to see it while you can!
