Will somebody please stop acting like children?

Ottawa Xpress Remgeo Cartoon 2009-03-27

So a show on Fox News broadcast at 3 A.M. hosted by, let’s say, a comedian mocking the Canadian Forces.  While I will agree the comments by Greg Gutfeld are condescending, let’s face the obvious — it’s Fox, and it’s 3 A.M!  Why is there anyone up at 3 A.M. to watch such a show?  An apology has been made since a few days already. They’re sorry (or maybe merely sarcastic).  Either way, the cartoon pictured above I found in this week’s edition of Ottawa Xpress reflects perfectly my feelings toward this “tragedy.”  Our troops have better things to do than to listen to insults from a lowbrow show.  Now, let’s move on.

Bus Sign Generator

That's why the strike lasted so long.

As one user said, “Hours of fun… or 10 min at least.”  Generate your own bus ad sign, based on the controversial “There’s probably no god.” advertisement in the UK, recently rejected by OC Transpo.

The roads are closed and the police is on the spot.  Today, it’s with American flags put up in some places downtown that we will greet President Obama.  He will arrive at Ottawa International Airport and be greeted by the Governor General at 10:30 AM, then to arrive at Parliament Hill at 11:40 AM to meet Prime Minister Stephen Harper.  A few places downtown are closed, and the city will be a no-fly zone for most of the day.  The CBC has published a “survival guide” during the time of his visit.  Both OC Transpo and the STO posted information about their detours on their Web sites.

Garage Destroyed, Tim's Closed

Aftermath of Fire at the Corner of St-Patrick and King Edward

I used to live on St-Patrick, a few houses away from this Tim Hortons at this street corner on King Edward.  On Friday evening, when I heard the news about three overnight fires last Thursday night burned down a few local businesses across the city, I had to come see what happened where I used to live the closest.  That Tim Hortons re-opened last year after renovations were done, and now all that work is for nothing.  At least the building is still there, which we cannot say for the completely destroyed garage next door.

Apple Store to open in Ottawa

Opening at the Apple Store in Ottawa

My co-worker just sent me a screenshot of Apple’s Web site, taken from its Job Opportunities section.  It seems Apple is now recruiting people to open a new retail store in Ottawa.  The location of the new Apple Store will be in the Rideau Centre.  That will surely compensate for the void left by the other computer store that closed a few years ago, which was the only Apple-authorized retail store in the area.

Update (2009-02-06):  By “in the area,” I meant downtown, or near the Market.  A few years ago, CompuSmart Express in the Rideau Centre was the only Apple-authorized retail store in that area, but Ottawa has other fine Apple-authorized locations, including Carbon Computing, The Mac Group, and iService Depot.  Thanks to WTL for his comment making this precision.
