Grand opening of the Apple Store in Ottawa

Long line waiting in front of the bright Apple logo

This morning at 9:30, the new Apple Store in the Rideau Centre in Ottawa opened its doors to the public.  Hundreds of eager Apple customers were waiting in line extending all the way outside, in front of the Sears entrance. Unusual for some, I suppose, because a few people waited in line, not knowing what for.

All the employees hired by the store were present today, cheering with all the customers, somehow reminding me of a parody by Mad TV.  And talking of parodies, I’m now waiting for Ottawa to get its own Mapple Store.

After the store opened, I waited in line.  Despite being long, it was moving fast, and I only had to wait half an hour before I set foot in the store and get a free t-shirt saying “Rideau” next to an Apple logo.  Now, I can literally say, “Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.”

Apple Store in the Eaton Centre

Remember when I wrote in February about the Apple Store coming to the Rideau Centre? It’s ready! The new retail store will open this Saturday, July 18 at 9:30 AM.

For those asking where it will exactly be in the Rideau Centre, it will be on the second floor, section J.  See the PDF version of the mall’s map.

New OC Transpo Web site

New OC Transpo Web site

Someone on the OC Transpo community on LiveJournal is reporting a new Web site for OC Transpo in the works.  Accessible at www.octranspo1.com, it is probably still under construction.  It was about time the site got a makeover.

Westboro at night

Westboro at night

A hungry friend of mine wanted to go in Westboro yesterday evening for dinner. We stuffed ourselves with burgers at The Works (as if the Rib Fest wasn’t enough).

When I got back home, at the moment I sat down, another friend of mine invited me out in the Market. A bit late for me, but the night was young, so I met him. We had some sangria at a tapas bar and joined a coworker who was at Zaphod’s.

He stayed longer than me. Sadly, nothing brings out my antisocial character more than nightclubs. I simply enjoyed coming back home by myself, in the rain, at sometime around 1 AM.

The King of Pop beats it at 50

It’s all over the Web.  From CBC to Boing Boing, with 30% of all posts on Twitter about it, the news is out: Michael Jackson died of a cardiac arrest at 50.

I really like the way he brought his spirit to pop music during the 80’s.  I was born early in the decade, and some of my music preference has been shaped by famous artists like him.  Then again, I wouldn’t say I was a huge fan of him, but I have to admit some of his songs were quite catchy and had a new sound nobody has heard before.  The beat, the rhythm, the dance, the lyrics…  Everything was there for the world to enjoy.

It’s too bad he went through rough times at the end.
